I may be a stay-at-home Dad, but no, don’t worry, I am not going that domestic. I used to have a lecturer in design college who made miniatures as a hobby. He would bring in little pieces of furniture that could fit in the palm of your hand. Each had coloured leaded glass windows for decoration and doors that opened on little brass hinges less than 4mm square with working threaded screws thinner than a pin. What was really surprising was that he was an ex-bodybuilder with hands like meat mallets and fingers that looked like swollen sausages. How he managed to hold tweezers I have no idea and these things were far smaller. This post is a tribute to the amazing crafts, jewellery and wacky costumes and sculptures that some very talented people around the world spend their time making.
